Online Exhibit at Northwestern University

"Radical Woman in a Classic Town: Frances Willard of Evanston" was created by the Northwestern Unviersity Archives as a Main Library exhibit in the Northwestern University Library. It filled eight display cases and was in place from January 18-April 16, 2010.

This virtual exhibit seeks to replicate the experience of viewing the "Radical Woman in a Classic Town" exhibit by reproducing images of all the photographs, documents, and artifacts used in the exhibit, matched with all the descriptive captions. Many of the materials featured were made available by the Frances Willard House Museum, and Memorial Archives.

Exhibit Curator: Janet Olson, Virtual Exhibit Curator: Yvonne Spura

Learning Resource Guide (designed for students and teachers)

Featuring many materials that are found only in the Frances Willard Memorial Library and Archives, this resource guide provides readers with an assortment of primary source materials on the life of Frances Willard, her involvement within the local community, and the evolution of women’s roles within the context of a changing America in the late nineteenth century. Through this “virtual” archive, you can engage in independent exploration, and form your own interpretation of Willard and the issues she championed.

Please note: This 99-paged resource guide was produced as a result of a course project for DePaul University undergraduates in HST 391, "Local and Community History." The FWHA is grateful to Chad Beckman, John Gentry, Wyatt Ramsey, and Courtney Wilson for their efforts, and is pleased to present their work here.
